Recovery Happens is California’s kickoff to National Recovery Month and has been running since 1992. The 2026 gathering is the 34th annual, hosted by California Recovering Communities at the State Capitol.
This one is not our event. InterCoast Colleges takes part as a collaborative partner and sponsor, and our staff host a table on the day. Stop by to meet instructors and Admissions staff, ask about the Alcohol and Drug Counseling Studies and Behavioral Health Assistant programs, and talk through what the coursework covers and the certification pathways students work toward.
The day brings together people in recovery, families, behavioral health professionals, peer support specialists, treatment providers, community organizations, advocates, and allies from across the state. There is a complimentary pancake breakfast from 8:00 AM, along with speakers, live entertainment, and community exhibits.
Where to find us
The event has moved this year. It is held in Area 33 of California State Capitol Park, so it is worth checking the organizers’ map before you set out. The schedule, the location map, and everything else about the day are published at recoveryhappens.info.
Admission is free and open to the public. Let us know you are coming and we will look out for you.
