A Student Records Policy is an institution’s policy on the privacy, maintenance, and disclosure of student education records.
What the catalog says
“The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records.”
“The Family Rights & Privacy Act prohibits an institution from releasing school records or any other information about a student to any third party without the student’s written consent.”
“Students are guaranteed right to access to their own files. Student files are maintained for five years from the date of graduation or withdrawal.”
Among the rights FERPA affords, the catalog lists: “The right to inspect and review the student’s education records within forty-five (45) days of the day that the College receives a request for access.”
Where it applies
InterCoast Colleges’ catalog states this under “STUDENT RECORDS POLICY” (pp. 47–48).
“The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education.”
