Residential and Commercial Electrical Wiring are two settings for electrical installation work: residential installations cover building plans, branch circuits and rough-in wiring, while commercial installations cover electronic theory, control systems, panelboards and switchgear.
What each covers
- Residential Electrical Installations. An introduction to residential electrical installations. Topics covered include the NEC and its application to residential workplace safety, residential building plans, transformers, conductors, cable and raceway installation, branch-circuit installation, device installation, service panel trip-out, rough-in wiring, and overcurrent devices.
- Commercial Electrical Installations. An introduction to electronic theory and control systems as well as commercial electrical installations. Topics covered include selection, sizing, and installation of conductors, distribution systems, panelboards and switchgear, overcurrent protection devices, and applicable NEC codes.
Which program covers it
In InterCoast Colleges’ Electrical Training Program, two courses cover these settings: ETP101 Residential Electrical Installations and ETP102 Commercial Electrical Installations.
Both sit in the Electrical Training Program alongside the National Electrical Code, grounding and bonding, and OSHA-10.
